This is an issue that has prevalent on many web hosts. GoDaddy, and HostGator both.
When I install Drupal with the one-click install process, which may have something to do with not being able to install modules.
I've seen the various modules that I'm trying for installed on platforms using Aquia Dev Desktop, but like I said, I'm using hosting from both GoDaddy and HostGator. I've shared a photo as well, but if anyone can help it is much needed! I'm trying to get this finished as quickly as possible and am very surprised no one else is experiencing this issue.

Sounds like you have placed a distribution or tarball of Drupal in a modules directory. As the error message indicates, that is not allowed. I don't really get your support request, though... you should do as the message implies and create a manual installation of Drupal instead of using your host's installation script. Those never work out in your favor.

I also had the same error. The previous comments are not helpful. I did a manual install, fresh, all the files in the drupal folder copied from desktop unzip, sent by ftp to public folder on website and set up drupal following prompts that appeared on my webpage after uploading files. I got the same error, it is not because an install was done through some automated process on the host.

The exact error I get says: "Manual updates required. Updates of Drupal core are not supported at this time."
This is found under Home/Administration/Appearance when setting up Drupal. I use Avrixe as my host, the zip file I downloaded from the drupal.org site was version 7.22 and the listing on this page with the error shows the recommeded update as being 7.23.

The closest fix I found is here, it is the instructions to manually upgrade when automatic updating does not work:
https://drupal.org/node/1494290

I am brand new to this web site building thing and to drupal. I think the question to be answered is WHY do automatic updates for drupal core not work on some hosts?

It's not that they don't work on some hosts - they don't work on any host, because Drupal doesn't support it.

New to Drupal today. My host is a Drupal recommended one.

I am also trying to upgrade to the latest. Apparently 7.24 to 7.25 is recommended. The file DRUPAL serves me is Drupal-7.25.tar.gz.

Error = Automatic updating of Drupal core is not supported. See the upgrade guide for information on how to update Drupal core manually.

"...they don't work on any host, because Drupal doesn't support it."

If Drupal does not support it, why does Drupal send it out in such a container? .tar.gz? Not being familiar with .tar.gz I am a bit confused.
