The table module+description that updatedb reports in its confirm message should be optionally emitted using any supported outputformat. We could hack something in, or we could add a new command like we did for updatecode. If we add a new command, it would be OK if did not work in the exceptional case when a major drupal upgrade has just been deployed. Thats what all the craziness in updatedb handles.

I can implement this, just will wait a bit for feedback on implementation.

Just committed this in 5f80c616fc96acbb331cc8a7810257388028773b. Would be great if Greg could take a look at the diff and fix up any obvious mistakes in the command declaration.

We have no test coverage for updatedb. Patches very welcome.

Test coverage would be nice :)

This seems to break the output for Drupal 6 sites. The fist pending update now gets "Description not available" as description. The patch fixes that.

The code from update_7 looks very similar, however a quick test showed no problem there.
