blacklabel_tom commentedI agree, users shouldn't be able to see create a post unless they have permissions to post in the group.
I'll have a look at getting a patch together for this.
Cheers

Topcheese commentedYou might want to refer to this issue.
Add & enable r4032loginComment #3
blacklabel_tom commentedThat looks like a better solution, as users can then get redirected to the post page if they have forgotten to login.
Is it OK if I close this issue?
Cheers
Tom

Topcheese commentedBut, it should not be there. However slight the user unfriendliness of it, I do believe it is also messes with SEO. You already have login or sign up links, that is what that button is in disguise. Who are they trying to lure with that these days?

blacklabel_tom commentedI'm thinking of how ebay does it where it looks like you're logged in and get all the menu links, but if you try to do anything where you should be logged in you are redirected to the login page and then redirected back to where you were once you login.
I think its going to be easier for users than going to post something and wondering why they can't see the post link and then going to login and then getting back to where they were.

Topcheese commentedOr perhaps Amazon? You know where you're not logged in, but they clearly know who you are when visiting the site. Now for some that is an issue... what are they already logged in? Has their page been hijacked and it's asking them again to sign on?
As far as Ebay goes, I think that the jury is still out on such practices. I'm still not sure if I'm good with going to a site where it looks like I'm still logged in, but as soon as I try something I get a log in prompt. Sure we like to click on something most every time only to be reminded that we're not logged in.
Let's not forget that although that might be a convenience factor for some, it is also a privacy/security concern for others. I can see sending someone to a login prompt after a time-out, but the current trend is so anti-psych it's not even funny. People want to be rewarded, and they press and click things to obtain wondrous things, which I think a login prompt is not on any bucket list.
I know I'm probably not going to win any converts with that argument, but then again I'm not trying to win anybody over. It is just something that is subtle, and over time it will play itself out.
Don't get me wrong, because I happen to like the current efforts, but I'm obviously trying to put way too much thought into this. Still, I wouldn't feel right if I had not said anything in the years to come.

geresy commentedFacebook does the same thing hehe ... maybe it's more obvious that you have to login in order to like / become friends with someone if you are not logged in.
But it's a nice call to action the way it's now.

blacklabel_tom commented@Topcheese I get your point of view, I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one.
I think if you go down either route:
You have to go the whole hog and make sure that things like the 'Create post' link are there/not there because of the route you have chosen.
I think in the meantime adding the
Add & enable r4032loginwill at least stop users getting dumped on the login page with no easy way to get back to where they were.Comment #9
Topcheese commented@geresy, Facebook? You mean where we are no longer anonymous and we are led around the net like a rat to cheese because of Graph? It stinks, but it's no mystery why the company that wanted to get in every home is in cahoots with the company that wants to get in every website. Who wants to play control the web, you know they say it comes in threes? I have no personal problems with any of them, but I would at least like to try and keep them on their toes, because being large and in charge can sometimes make their head get too big. :)
@blacklabel_tom, thank you I'm glad someone understood me. I don't think we have to disagree, and I'll be more than happy to agree with you. I just like to throw ideas out there, but it doesn't necessarily mean that I agree with them either. I trust that you know what you're talking about way more than my conjecture.
