Setting up a station schedule

To create a schedule of radio programs, you need to enable the following modules:

  • station
  • station program
  • views
  • station schedule

You can then begin creating program nodes, if you haven't already. Create one for each program on your station, but bear in mind that one program can be scheduled at several times. For example, the program 'Rock Dungeon' can be on both Saturday and Sunday nights.

Schedule time increment

Before you being scheduling, you should consider what your minimum schedule slot size needs to be. Set this at admin >> site configuration >> station >> schedule. The default is 1 hour. Other options are 15 and 30 minutes.

Scheduling programs

There are two ways of adding a program node to the schedule:

  • At admin >> content management >> schedule, click on an unscheduled slot, and type in the name of the program. You can also change the times, to have the program occupy only part of the empty slot.
  • Edit the program node, and under Schedule click Add to the schedule. Note that the node must have already been saved.

If you need to schedule a program at regular times, you can use the back button on your browser after submitting a schedule item to avoid reentering all the data (eg, for a program on at the same time each day).

Limitation of the schedule: Due to the way slots are stored in the database, it's not currently possible to have a schedule slot overlap midnight on Saturday night, for example Saturday 22:00 to Sunday 04:00.

Altering the schedule

You can edit a scheduled item, changing the day and time, or the program that plays during that slot.

It's probably more efficient to think of your schedule having slots, with each slot having a program, rather than thinking of each program node as having one or more schedule items. This makes altering a full schedule more effecient. Don't change the times for the programs or delete slots to make room; simply go to admin >> schedule and change the programs in the existing slots.

DJs

Each program node can have one or more users listed as DJs. At admin >> site configuration >> station >> schedule, you can set the role that DJs must belong to and customize the title of DJs (eg 'presenters' instead of 'DJs').

Customizing the breadcrumb on program nodes

By default, each program node has a breadcrumb that leads back to the list of scheduled shows and the main station menu item: Home >> Station >> Programs >> {this program}.

This can be easily overriden in the menu options: disable or edit the 'Station' menu item and its child item 'Programs'.
