If you're talking about the D6 version, Elysia Cron does NOT replace poormanscron, and does NOT work with it (at least, first versions of EC were not compatible with Poormans, i never tested this later, you could try if you want).

The better thing to use EC with D6 is to install Drupal crontab as described in Drupal INSTALL guide.

In D7 Elysia Cron fully supports D7 standard cron (that has a "Poormanscron like" behaviour).
