Another problem with #1812566: Ship Commons with (optional, but default to on) demo content is that the default empty text is just nothing. The same is true of other views like /events and /groups.
In Drupal core, there's an established empty text UI pattern of "There are no [things] available." and then if you have permission to create those things, "Add [a thing]".

ezra-g CreditAttribution: ezra-g commentedThe reason I avoided empty text in a lot of these views is so that they'll simply disappear when they're empty, instead of taking up space on the page to say "Yep, this space is blank" and to avoid giving the impression of an inactive community.
However, this definitely makes some landing pages look...paltry when there's not a lot of content.
