I do feel that the RHS is somewhat wasted without the option to divert certain form elements there.

Would it not make perfect sense in terms of screen space use to provide an option to move the 'Vertical tabs' section into the Right sidebar much as used to be be the case for Taxonomy in the D6 version?

I, too, feel this would be useful functionality, but I think it would require a Rubik module (Much like how Omega has Omega Tools) to implement.
