I had a use-case where we wanted certain users to be informed of conflicts, but be able to book the resource anyway despite them.
Just took a few lines... might be useful to others. I added a permission 'override conflict', and it does a check before returning the form error, and returns a drupal message instead (and so the node gets saved).
