I had a fairly normal menu structure with a block at the top with a submenu that pointed to a number pages.

When I installed the module (with the patched menu.inc) the block disappeared from the menu, though it still appeared in the block admin area. I could see the block heading in the menu admin page, but when I tried to add a menu item to the block, the block did not show up in the parent pull down box.

I deinstalled the module after that and reinstalled the original menu.inc file.

I experienced similar behavior from the "menu per role" module see post "Main Navigation (top level) Menu Vanishes for Non-Authenticated users" for details on my issue.

I just played around with it and I was not able to reproduce it.
It only disappears, if the menu items inside disappear.
