If the anonymous and registered users haven't the "administer url aliases" permission they don't see the alias in links. In other words, the variable "path" is NULL.

Can you explain in more detail how and where this is a problem?

Well...i'll try to explain with an example:

I've a node that has an alias "title-of-node". When a non admin user views this node link it is empty:

<a href="/">Title of node</a>

If i check on the "administer pathauto" permission the node link wil be ok:

<a href="/title-of-node">Title of node</a>

It only happen with nodes and not with taxonomy or users path alias.

Sorry, the permission is "administer url aliases" not "administer pathauto".

The issue title is correct but i'll had to post it in "path.module" not in "pathauto.module" bugs. Sorry.

Title: Users need "administer url aliases" to view the alias » Users need "administer url aliases" for the alias to appear links
Project: Pathauto » Drupal core
Version: 5.x-1.2 » 5.1
Component: Code » path.module

This is quite interesting and indeed a problem with core, not pathauto.

I've never seen this before, so it will likely take more information from you to figure out.

How are these links being created? Are you using the l() function? Something else?

In the frontpage i've put some block views and i've rewrite the ouput using l() function for links but the link href atribute are empty.

In node.tpl.php i've used a "a" tag with base_path() and $node->path but this last item ($node->path) it's empty when the user has no "administer url aliases" permission, the same as above.
