Some results page settings get ignored

"results page open in" and "filter" settings both work fine

but "advanced search" and "results" setting have no effect

i have found at what the problem is it seems the theme i am using (pixture reloaded 2.2) is incompatible - switched to bartik to test and everything worked fine

i dont want to change templates is there anything i can do to resolve this problem?

This is surely my theme screwing over this module - it makes some pretty radical changes to search result output.
