How can I add a legend (guide) for the colors telling users which color is which content type, etc. as a block?

If you download Open Atrium, it uses such a block with Crayon and Litecal, but I'll be darned what I need to do to reproduce this block outside of an Open Atrium profile... any suggestions on how to extract this functionality from Open Atrium?
