What about a printer-friendly stylesheet? I never made one before so it'd be hard for me to make my own (I tried for about half an hour and it looks like crap). I think this should become a standard feature of all themes since it's in the default garland theme. I tried garland's print.css but of course it didn't work.

Have you tried to use the Print Friendly Pages module? It works quite well.
