How do I manually alter the a link structure to open content in a lightbox 2 modal in Drupal 7?

Using the older tutorial here, I am trying to get a node to popup in a lightbox via an http://drupal.org/node/252260

However, according to the Features on the project page, it implies that rel=lightframe is no longer needed or no longer part of the modules for D7? Is that correct?

I am following that tutorial in full, but nothing is working. Can you tell me how to please alter the 'a' tag to achieve opening content in a lighbox?
