Data exported in the form of an HTML table (in a file with .xls extension) are not suitable for importing into Excel nor any other similar program. Instead, a real CSV file is needed (just like the data exported from the Webform module).

The attached patch fixes this (the code was taken from webform.module and appropriately customized).
