Would this be a straightforward feature to add? I can live without it, but in one particular instance it would be useful to me to limit a webform to authenticated users who are in a certain CiviCRM group.

You can accomplish this with civicrm group/roles sync. Then on the advanced settings of your webform, only give access to those with the appropriate role.
