Laura Scott asked for this and given the power it gives to the CSS/JS guys/gals and as it can't really collide with anything unless you put two dashes in your id which in real does not happen I am deeming it immediately RTBC.

drummDon't think so. Markup additions are like API additions for CSS. Do it in your own theme.

chx commentedThis is a feature which would cause some themes that work with forthcoming Drupal 5 versions not to work with existing Drupal 5 versions. I thought such things are not allowed in the stable series. It might even break existing sites that used these ids.
