I have used Spamicide for a while, but it is not full proof. While it did cut down the level of node and comment spam, it does not prevent. There is still junk getting through every few days. So I assume bots learned to get around it.

Looking for alternatives, I've found the BOTCHA module http://drupal.org/project/botcha It uses a similar method, but the author claims to have a better way of mangling the forms. See #991434: Comparison between uncaptchalous and BOTCHA

Care to comment on that?

These two modules are awfully similar, and both are really well done. Would it make sense to combine the efforts?
