I have been aproached by a relative to do a wesite for him complete with shopping cart. Fortunately (or not) he will only be accepting PayPal on his site. On the down side I have never done an eCommerce site before so I too am treading new waters. I am looking to put up a drupal 5 site with the eCommerce 3 module to handle the store front. I have been looking at dreamhost, directnic and 1and1 as the list of hosts. So far dreamhost seems to be the popular choice here. My question is this:
I understand that to really do this right a SSL certificate/unique ip would be in order and desirable. However that requires a larger budget than he has. I don't know if the eCommerce module hands the payment off to paypal or not to get the secure transaction using their (paypal's) cert.
So the question is a two part question. First is this a do-able thing with the eCommerce module (out of the box) and second, which of these providers (or alternate ones) has the best price/service reliability record.
