The access control for Editing content has two levels per node type, for example:
* edit own story content (and tangentially create story content)
* edit story content

Viewing, however, is limited to one level across all nodes:
* access content

I'm wondering if the View permissions could be modeled more like the Edit permissions, perhaps along the lines of:
* access story content
* access own story content

To accomplish this it would mean to implement something like content_access.

Is this still a feature we want to implement in Drupal 8?

Not keen on adding an access implementation to core, but if we did it could go into a minor release.
