it could be really usefull if MM module could have a subscription block for anonymous users to signup to defined mailing lists.

Just simple one: form to place email and send button. Mailing list could be defined in block settings, or next to every mailing list could be selection to "provide subscription block"

This is a bit more involved that it appears and does not really work well with the module architecture. The module is a bit of overkill for what you are requesting. A simple block can be developed that sends the command since the storing of password, etc. for future changes to the subscription would be moot.
