How do I make hansel set a parent page active if the current page is not in a menu? The parent page is in the menu so I want it to be activated.

I don't think this is a hansel issue. active trails has nothing to do with hansel. can you provide more info??

In my opinion active trails and breadcrumbs are linked. If I have the breadcrumb Home > News > News Item then I assume that News in the menu is active when I am on the News Item page.

Custom Breadcrumbs 6.x-2.0 had such a functionality for example so I think this would be a nice addition.

There is now (latest dev) a checkbox in the settings page to set the active menu item based on the breadcrumbs. It will look for menu items with the same name.
