Can't find anything on the support list about this issue...this is a recent development that we're trying to track down. Users are having their "contestant" role removed when they use the password reset email and click on the link. The contestant role is bestowed on them when they sign up through a module called Auto Assign Role (http://drupal.org/project/autoassignrole). Anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!

I have tracked down this problem and this is happening because of the Logintoboggan Module if you are using it.
I have made a patch and hopefully that solves your problem.
