When I set teaser to 600 and write a story and the content is more than one paragraph there will be no teaser. Only when I set teaser to Unlimited do I get somethin on front page.

I'm guessing this is the same or similar to http://drupal.org/node/155337.

Suggest you try the patch there and if it doesn't help then post back here with more details and restore the status to active.
