I was wondering why sexybookmarks would work sometimes and not others.
Looking through my error logs I see this:

http://mysite.com/development/sites/all/modules/contrib-social-1/sexyboo...

The content type is in an organic group
I use purl paths to define the organic group so node/1 is "development". Please note this is not path alias.

In this case the images are references from the relative path instead of the absolute path

Issue tags: +purl, +Persistent URL, +Sexybookmark

This also causes major performance issues when sexybookmarks and purl are enabled.

Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in 6.x-2.x?

SexyBookmarks is no longer being actively maintained. It was a port of Shareaholic for WordPress, and Shareaholic has since released an official Drupal module.

Recommended next step:

You should migrate to the official Shareaholic for Drupal module, which has updated buttons, styles, services, 100% mobile-ready and much more! - http://drupal.org/project/shareaholic

You can learn more here: https://blog.shareaholic.com/drupal-module/
