Doesn't check for Comment Module disabled

I'm getting an error on all my nodes:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: comment_render() in /home/web/drupal/node.php on line 18

which is this:

if ($node->comment) {
comment_render($id, $cid);
}

I have the comment module disabled, but node.php still wants to use it.

I comment out lines 17-19 to fix, but that's a hack. Should $node->comment be returning false so this doesn't happen? If so, doesn't look like it's doing that.
