The core comments module in D6 provides a theme function to display a message when users can not post a comment.

For anonymous users ONLY, we should reuse the function theme_comment_post_forbidden(). The stock message hyperlinks to the login and register pages, which improves usability.

Very glad to see that this was fixed, as we're having precisely this issue. Is there a patch available, since a new D6 version has not been made available since the fix was reported?
