Problem/Motivation

When an image field has a maximum resolution and an upload is larger, Drupal scales the file down during the upload. The stored file no longer has its C2PA manifest, so this module finds nothing to read and makes no suggestion. Nothing is logged, because a file without a manifest is the ordinary case. With a module that re-signs uploads, such as C2PA Sign, the log says instead that the trusted manifest declares no digitalSourceType, which points at the wrong cause.

Steps to reproduce

Measured on Drupal 11.4.10 with the GD toolkit, uploading through the node form and then running the read queue:

  • A signed 320×240 PNG on an image field without a maximum resolution keeps its manifest and gets a pending suggestion.
  • The same file on a field limited to 200×150 is stored at 200×150, 3 KB, without the manifest, and gets no suggestion and no log line.

Proposed resolution

List it under Known issues in the 1.0.0-alpha1 changelog: on the image fields of participating bundles, leave the maximum resolution empty and scale for display with an image style. A status report warning can follow after the release.

Status: Active » Fixed

Fixed in 1.0.x by #3631631: Keep the original of an upload that Drupal scales, so its content credential is still read (79f55a1, 788da84): the original of an upload that Drupal scales is kept and read instead of the scaled file. It will be in 1.0.0-alpha2; until then this stays a known issue of 1.0.0-alpha1.
