Problem/Motivation

As discussed over in https://git.drupalcode.org/project/drupal_lwg/-/work_items/3578949, COPYRIGHT.txt must be manually kept up to date. This is time consuming and we often forget, so sometimes it is out of date anyway.

We have vendor-update.js which updates our JavaScript assets automatically. This script could be extended to copy the license of each package into the asset directory.

Steps to reproduce

Proposed resolution

Add license management to vendor-update.js
Minimise or delete COPYRIGHT.txt

Had a go at this. vendor-update.js now copies the license to the JS asset directory.

COPYRIGHT.txt has been reduced to only mentioning jQuery Form and jQuery UI Position which we have copied into core/misc.
