Not 100% sure this is the problem - looks like MySQL crashed on the server and all the queries from parallel tests that were just about to run failed at the same time, but either way this can be a big query with a lot of test modules.

The database backend already chunks in groups of 100, but I think this is failing because of both the number of rows being written and also how much serialize data there is in there - assuming it's the problem in the first place.

Haven't seen this appear yet but did get hit with the entity query bug with 50+ fields a few weeks back. Chunking worked there too so makes sense here.

Postponing this on #3617152: EntityLastInstalledSchemaRepository::getLastInstalledDefinition() loads all definitions which should massively reduce the number of entries we need to write in the first place.
