I do not know if this is a bug or intentional but I am thinking its a bug.

When you use a map context to set the location a node, then return to edit the node in another session, the map will pop up and the location point will NOT be in the current location of the node. this makes it impossible to fine tune the location as it resets every time. This is both counter intuitive as well as confusing.

If the behaviour is as you describe, it's certainly a bug; the map should pop up with it's location in the center, similar to the user location. I will look into it.

It's a bug to be fixed in release 6.x-1.4

Release 6.x-1.4 still has a problem when a (new) node or user doesn't have a location yet. This is fixed in release 6.x-1.x-dev.
