Release notes
Initial release of Smart 404.
This is the first stable release. The module is ready for use on production sites running Drupal 10.3 or higher and Drupal 11.
What this release includes:
- Automatic logging of 404 responses, aggregated per normalized path (no duplicate rows)
- Admin overview at Manage > Reports > 404 Log with filters, sorting, and pagination
- One-click redirect creation with intelligent path suggestions based on existing URL aliases
- Bulk redirect form: process multiple 404 paths in one step
- Bot detection and configurable ignore patterns (glob-style) to reduce noise
- Configurable data retention via cron (default: 90 days, max 10,000 records)
- GDPR-aware by design: no IP addresses stored, user agents categorized not stored raw, external referers stored as domain-only
- Hard dependency on the Redirect module, installed automatically via Composer
- Three permissions: view log, create redirects, administer settings
- Full configuration management support (settings are exportable)
Requirements:
- Drupal 10.3 or 11
- PHP 8.1 or higher
- drupal/redirect ^1.9 (pulled in automatically)
Known limitations in 1.0.x:
- Multi-domain setups: paths are logged without host context, so the same path on two domains counts as one entry. Planned for 1.1.
- No CSV export or Views integration. Planned for 1.2.
- No email notifications for new 404s. Planned for 1.1.
