It would be sweet if there was a method to add opt-in subscribers. Where an email address needs to be confirmed for the user to be added instead of just adding the to the list. Patch supplied.

Well, the supplied method looks fine, but it's not much use to a regular user.

I would suggest a configuration to use opt in on the regular form.

Added in 3.2.0

I've added an option to use it on non-user profile forms.

Might change it to a permission, but that would require a major version bump.
