I cringed when I first read there wasn't a free version of Civil Comments on https://chromatichq.com/blog/civil-comments-drupal-module and this module's project page.

Distributed Drupal modules distributed from Drupal.org are always free to download and modify. Then I realized by "version" you didn't mean the version of the module. You meant there wasn't a free tier/version of the service.

Might be worth updating the statement on to something like "There is not currently a free version of the Civil Comments service this module requires".

Modules that require a subscription to a service are nothing new.
