Does not work on Email fields

I've never been able to get this module to work on an Email field. I have a couple of submission forms which are supposed to require anonymous users to submit their name and email address, but allow authenticated users to skip them. The module works great for regular text field and list fields on the same forms, but not email on either of the forms (no red asterisk either). I also have a number of fields that are required for all users on the same form, and they work as expected.

Any suggestions?
