Since I'm upgrading to 5.1 from 4.7, I decided to switch servers. Dreamhost turned into Craphost, so I picked up an account at Textdrive.

Before I activate the switch I'm setting up a test site (with a copy of my current site) on a domain I'm not using. Once it's perfected, I'll point the DNS at the new server and it should be a seamless switch.

I ran the upgrade and it all seemed to be working properly. The site is up, though it needs some tweaking. Problem is, I get a 404 error when I click on anything. None of my pages work. I try to login and I get a 404 error.

Does this have to do with htaccess?

Possibly related to .htaccess, apache modrewrite, clean urls, cache or even your template.

The above gives you pointers to where you should look for answers and investigate what's going wrong. Goodluck with the transition.
