The 1.0.0 release will mark the beginning of Drupal Canvas being suitable for use in production (live sites published with it) for websites, or portions of websites, for which the included functionality of Drupal Canvas is sufficient. This includes:

  • Creating/editing Pages (its own distinct entity type, not a Node).
  • Creating/editing a Content Template for the Full view mode of a Node type.
  • Editing the layout and content for the theme's Regions (e.g., header, footer, etc.).
  • For each of the above, being able to use SDCs (Twig), Blocks (PHP), and Code Components (React), composed together in any combination. Note that not all SDCs and Blocks are supported by Canvas; /admin/appearance/component shows which are incompatible and why.
  • Within Content Templates, for each component's props, being able to set the prop value to either a static value or to connect it to one of the node's fields.

The above is not an exhaustive list of every feature that's in Drupal Canvas, but it's the essence of what you can accomplish with it currently. Many features, such as multilingual, workspaces, editing individual nodes within Canvas, and many others, are not yet available. Furthermore, Drupal Canvas does not yet provide a public API with which to add any missing features or integrations. Therefore, Drupal Canvas 1.0.0 is not expected to be suitable for every website. It's only intended to be production-ready for the websites, or portions of websites, for which the above functionality is sufficient. Additional features, integrations, and public APIs will be added gradually in post-1.0 versions.

@lauriii indicated ~2 weeks ago he'd update this to document the updated (reduced) scope. Assigning to him to do so, and to provide the context for those decisions.
