What is Crowdsourcing?

Crowdsourcing is the attempt to accomplish a goal (raise funds, contribute to a project, etc.) by leveraging the resources of a crowd of individuals. For instance, the website GoFundMe allows users to set up a page where they can explain their need for funds and collect donations from a "crowd" of people willing to donate. Kickstarter and IndieGoGo are other well-known crowdsourcing websites.
