The Smoky Mountain Institute (SMI) is a research consortia of industry, small business, non-profit and educational institutions.

SMI is an interdisciplinary collaboration focused on developing a unified smart service system to co-create value for their facilities and their users.

SMI targets three research components of smart service systems science for buildings .... 1) development 2) deployment and 3) use.

Coupling SMI expertise with its broad base of institutional facilities makes available the best of smart service system design and applications to faculty, staff and students to enable a vibrant and engaged academic community.
