This is a sandbox project, which contains experimental code for developer use only.

Turns out this module already exists. It's called Environment Indicator by mrfelton. Thanks to stella for pointing that out in #1398060: environment indicator module.

I'm therefore retiring this project.

When developing a web site, you may be dealing with copies of the site on different servers, varying Drupal platforms and/or install profiles, etc.

You are here displays that info as a block and integrates with admin_menu so you are never lost. Optional color coding helps differentiating instances at a glance.
