After enabling the module I have noticed that it is creating pages in the form of www.example.com/sitemap.xml?page=1 . As per module settings it is creating one new page for every 10000 entries.

However as you can see, system is creating dynamic URLs despite clean URLs being enabled on the site. Is there a way I can turn these dynamic URLs into static URLs such that www.example.com/sitemap.xml?page=1 maps to www.example.com/sitemap-1.xml on the sitemap.xml page.

I know I can do this manually using pathauto module, but I just want to know if there is a way to create these URLs automatically.

The answer is no, not currently but it is a good feature request.

By the way please also consider adding this feature to the 6.x-2.x as it would be beneficial to many D6 users also.
