The main font used for this theme (the Merriweather) has very poor character set. It's missing virtually all of the non ASCII chars used in non English languages. The font itself is great but makes theme useless for non-English users.

Please note that adding latin-ext and latin character sets does not solve the problem because Merriweather is incomplete.

Thanks for flagging that. You have a point, and I do want the font (and theme) to be more useful to non-english speakers.

That being said, I would prefer to keep using Merriweather as the main font.

You mentioned adding latin-ext, and while it may not completely solve the problem, I think it's a huge step forward, since it opens up the theme to be used by many other latin-based languages (though perhaps not your own). I've just added a commit to the dev branch to include that specification.

If more character subsets become available, I'll include them as well. I think it is likely to happen, since the font designer is from Poland himself, and he's done a great job of updating it often.

But if it doesn't, my recommendation is that you use the font-your-face module to override theme fonts with Google fonts like Notica Text or whatever else you please. I doubt that any one font will please everybody (even Notica Text doesn't support many of the Greek or Arabic glyphs), but modules like font-your-face make it easy to adjust it to your needs.

Thanks for font-your-face hint but after a few days with Writer theme I've decided to create a sub theme that'll fix this issue and few others. Mainly relating to font size and spacing but also few tweaks for modules that I use. You can see my work on Show unpublished comments test page.

I made the theme wider and more responsive to use as much screen's real estate as possible :) This page however does not show all of my improvements. You can check out others on front page... but the whole site is in Polish.
