only just stumbled on this - what a great idea - does anyone know if there is an equivalent for D8 seeing as this isn't being ported by looks of it.

With configuration management in D8 (and toss in some VCS w/ Git to track changes), I'd say this module isn't really needed anymore. It would be cool if anyone wanted to port it from D7 to D8, because it would be nice to have a UI/UX to go along with it. But I won't be porting it to D8 (anytime soon), and if anyone wants to, have at it! :)
