Padding around main content text

Hi.. I love the Teleco theme and am desperately trying to increase the padding around main content text as it touches the border. I've been through the CSS and the best I could do was add padding at line 780 in style.css which did the trick but mucked up the styling for the rest of the page, making the header blocks and secondary menu disappear. In the screenshots at http://www.figover.com/teleco-theme, there's beautiful padding around the text - can you tell me what needs to be done to achieve this?
