this module changes the site's DEFAULT theme, which will be the new default theme for ALL the users. Very funny 'feature'...

Yes, that's a critical bug. See #185254: Themes don't switch for anonymous users for a patch. Leaving this issue open to commit a stand-alone patch.

This doesn't happen with 5.x-1.1. For 5.x-1.x-dev, the patch in #185254: Themes don't switch for anonymous users works.
