So what do these per user settings do? They are under the "Preferences" fieldset just below the "Send interval" setting. My assumption is that these settings would change the defaults for any new subscriptions made to send email notifications when a node is updated (On updates) and when comment added to a node (On comments). Yet, when I UNCHECK these in my preferences and look at the subscription UI block on a node page, "On updates" and "On comments" is always checked. Screenshots attached showing user setting/preference (admin in this case) and subscribe block with checkboxes still checked.

So how do I setup Subscriptions so that when a user subscribes to a node they don't automatically get subscribed to updates (only comments)? This is my site-wide goal for all content types for user defaults.

I assume that the "Subscribe to this page" subscription that you're showing is already existing.

Your understanding is correct, but maybe your testing isn't.

The difference that you should be seeing is when you activate the "To Tools and Resources content" subscription (in your case). Then the checkboxes should appear in the states that you selected in the preferences.

Was your "Subscribe to this page" subscription created by auto-subscribe? I just tried auto-subscribe by comment, and it seems that we fail to honor the preferences in that case...

P.S. Be sure to use the -dev version. It has a number of significant bug fixes and enhancements.

No matter the previous subscription status to the particular node, when a user arrives on the page the "Subscribe to this page" is already checked (which makes sense), as are the "On updates" and "On comments" checkboxes. I would expect the "On updates" preference I described in my original post to be what controls whether the "On updates" checkbox is pre-checked in the subscribe form (same with the "On comments" preference). Is that what is supposed to happen?

When I return from vacation I will try the -dev version. Do you have any timeline for a new release version based on current -dev?

Thanks!

What? Unless activated by auto-subscribe, it should not be that way. Why would it make sense?

Do you mean, because they go to the Subscribe page, they want to subscribe? That's true, but we don't know what type of subscription they want to activate (assuming there's more than just "to this page"). No subscription should be pre-checked. And those that you check should pop up the "On updates" and "On comments" checkboxes (and the Send interval) according to the Preferences.
