Patch #7 works on Drupal core 7.91, PHP 8.0.21 and SMTP 7.x-1.7+21-dev version
Is there any chance to get merged into dev or a new stable release for Drupal 7?

SMTP 7.x-1.8 release is out but this issue was not included.

The reference to 7.x-1.8 was a suggestion, the maintainers chose not to commit this fix.
