Greetings,
I am aware, from reading here, that smiley replacements even without spaces was an issue for some and was fixed (eg.: 'http://' generating a ':/' smiley).
On the other hand, I found the option very useful : I used it to replace all occurrences of @ in a given Text Format to be replaced by a @ smiley. This was a very successful email obfuscation method for me. It was more efficient than any of the email obfuscation modules I have tried (without much success: the @ still shows up in various ways). The smiley replacement was better and simpler.
Of course, such a method also means that links with @ or other patterns will be messed up by the replacements, but it was fine on my site, as it was only for @.
In D6 Smileys module, this stand-alone option was available per smiley.
Request : can someone give a patch or tip to do this for at least @
[an alternative: that alt. filter works, but not as well as D6 Smileys]
Suggestion : the option per smiley to work as a stand-alone (like D6 Smileys) would be nice in D7 Smiley.
