I have Drupal 4.5.7, and the version of the Slash theme that says it works with that (4.5.0), but although the theme settings page shows OK (in blue, if it matters), everywhere else is just plan black and white.

1. Make sure you downloaded the correct version http://drupal.org/files/projects/slash-4.5.0.tar.gz.

2. I believe it's necessary to have the main theme, slash, enabled if you want to use onw of its styles like slash_blue.

If you still have problem please submit a screendump or a link to the site in question.

I redownloaded from the link just given, and reunpacked.
themes/slash/README.txt claims:
"Requires - Drupal 4.5"

If I click the 'enabled' check box next to the base "slash themes/slash" and then save, the check mark vanishes, which makes me suspicious.

Current settings have the _blue versioin as the default, and enabled.
You can see it at http://drupal.rachaelandtom.info

I will attach screenshots of the admin page (which seems to look almost right), and the main home page (which is very broken, like all the other pages except the one admin page)

And here is a screenshot of the main home page with slash_blue selected

So, I just have to learn how to write my own theme and redo all the work the Slash people did then ?

Do other themes, like the one included with Drupal, work as they should?

I just tested http://drupal.org/files/projects/slash-4.5.0.tar.gz on a clients site that still run Drupal 4.5.x and it seems to work without problems on that site.

Sorry I can not be of more help.

Yeah, other themes OK.

I'm not in too much of a hurry because I still have to port our existing data from SlashCode into Drupal. By the time I do that, I may have taken the plunge to a newer Fedora and can run the later Drupal versions instead.

Ahh well.
